Alexia Fernandes is a French-Portuguese screenwriter and director. Graduating in 2011 with a specialization in Film Direction from the School of Technologies, Innovation, and Creation in Lisbon, she/they/he has lived across France, Portugal, and Germany—spending nearly a decade in each.

Alexia’s short films have been nominated at international festivals, including Fantasporto, the Lisbon & Sintra Film Festival, the AVIFF Art Film Festival in France, the Female Filmmakers Festival Berlin, the Porto Femme International Film Festival, and the InShadow Lisbon Screendance Festival. At the 16th edition of InShadow, Alexia was distinguished for the short film Olhares, receiving both the Jorge Salavisa Award for Best Videodance and the Território Estúdios Victor Córdon Award for Best National Director. Alexia's screenwriting has also been recognized by Maison des Scénaristes, leading to a selection for the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 2019, and again in 2025—this time with a debut feature presented as part of Pitchs Sans Frontières at Cannes’ Marché du Film.

Currently in development, the feature A Humming Melody was selected for the TFL NEXT Screens of Tomorrow Lab—an Erasmus+ initiative launched by Sparknews and the Torino Film Lab of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema, with support from the European Union (EU). The project is also part of the Transeuropean Mentoring Program for womxn filmmakers, supported by Erasmus+ and created by Le Collectif 50/50 (France) in partnership with MUTIM Mulheres (Portugal)—both networks dedicated to promoting equity and inclusion in the film industry.
